 Advertisements for Ferguson & Urie appear as “Hotham” instead of “North Melbourne”.

On the 18^th of December 1874, “Hotham” was proclaimed a town in its own right and thirteen years later changed back to “North Melbourne” on the 26^th of August 1887. Ferguson & Urie’s competitors in the glass trade, “Brooks Robinson & Co”, are at this stage, still advertising themselves as just plate glass merchants. A European competitor in the trade, Vander Poorten of Brussels, has now implanted a family representative in Melbourne and has begun to advertise themselves for their overseas studio from an address at 4 Darling Terraces in Drumond street, Carlton.
