Elizabeth painting 13 Feb 1872 [clip]

Between 1870 and 1872 the Lyon family returned to the UK.

They departed Melbourne aboard the “George Thompson” on Tuesday 15th March 1870 for London. On the return the boarded the ship ‘Great Britain’ who departed Liverpool 17th December 1871 and arrived in Hobson’s Bay, Melbourne on 21st February 1872.

The painting of Elizabeth was done aboard the Great Britain on the 13th Feb 1872.

Note: The son, John Gilbert Lyon age 3 in 1870 does not appear in this return list in 1872 which likely indicates he may have died before Feb 1872. Another son Bertram Fraser Lyon, aged 1, appears to have been born whilst overseas and appears on this inwards passenger list for the ‘Great Britain’ in February 1872.
